Gucci Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Gucci is argubly of one of the highlights of the Fashion Week – in general, not just Milan. Led by the fashion world’s darling, Alessandro Michele, Gucci has undergone an unstoppable revival that doesn’t show any sign of slowing down anytime soon. Continuing that momentum was his FW17 collection, the label saw many partnerships: graffiti artist and new collaborator Coco Capitán’s work was scrawled on the exterior of the venue, and a new relationship with Parks Liberi e Uguali ensured the runway’s models were diverse as its celeb-dotted audience. As for the clothes? It had everything you’ve come to expect from a Michele-directed show. The retro feel that’s marked every Gucci collection since 2015 was present (T-shirts printed with archival Gucci logos was the most obvious iteration of this). Bold prints, sumptuous fabrics, and stellar styling were all there. What is sure to impress viewers are the kimono-like dresses, brocade separates, and floral suits. But Michele took a stab at kitsch with a pair of intarsia knit sweaters which succeeds in the designer’s ongoing mission to inject youth into the prestige label. Technical skill was on display as well which we saw at its maximum by way of embroidered tweed jackets, lavish gowns and tailoring. The accessories, as usual, provided the perfect finishing touch though each piece were superb in their own right. Never a disappointment, Gucci has set the pace for the rest of the Milan Fashion Week.
