Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Alexander Wang chose to show his new collection in a location somewhat out the fashion week loop, the abandoned RKO Hamilton Theatre, but he has never been one to blend in. The show opened and closed with the word ‘power’ electronically pulsing throughout the room paired with strobe lights, hugely contrasting with the Renaissance Revival style of the theatre. However, this combination of a new collection and an old location proved to be a powerful one.

In classic Wang style, the whole performance was dark, mysterious and oh so effortlessly cool. This was of course reflected through the designs which all shared a monochromatic colour scheme and an abundance of leather. The collection was feminine, with hard leather pieces balanced out by black silk, slinky dresses, sparkly garments, and frequent pearl trims on frilled skirts and overcoats.

This time the runway only saw female models, contrary to his somewhat signature style of included male models within female shows in order to create cohesion between collections. Yet he kept an androgynous feel with minimal make up and artfully messy hair. Wang proved that feminine does not have to equate floral, but it wouldn’t be an Alexander Wang collection without edgy touches such as studs and fishnet.
