Spring-Summer 2013 – There are very few words to describe the anticipation before a Chanel show. Expectations are always high, and are always met, such as this seasons wind turbines lining the length of the catwalk which were representative of the ‘wind and the air.’ What this meant was an easier collection in that it was more paired down. For instance, the colour palette was kept to a minimal black, white and navy. However this being Chanel, there were still mega pearls encrusting everything from navy dresses, to white tops and skirts. Huge pearl wraths circled necks and wrists adding instant glamour to plainer outfits, such as the simple black shift dresses and jackets. The silhouette was voluminous with cocoon shaped cropped jackets and tops, along with strapless cutesy dresses and bell sleeves. There also modern and innovative pieces with a bold use of gridded cloth. It wouldn’t be Lagerfeld without tweed, and this came in snatches of colour such as green and blue. Chanel stamped its authority as always, but this time with a calm and collected collection.
