Christopher Kane
Autumn-Winter 2014/15 – Whilst fur and crystal embellishment were among the many influences present in Christopher Kane’s AW14 collection, it was the digital floral print and frill detail on the swing dresses that added a contemporary and girlish quality to the range. The Sports Luxe inspired pieces, however, contrasted this entirely as they added a layer of gritty, masculinity.
Christopher Kane, who admits he loves embellishment, scattered full lengths coats and knitted, jumper dresses in delicate, glittering gems. Knitwear was another focal point of this collection and, arguably, the unique looking, frilly knit jumpers were some of the collection’s most stand out pieces.
Providing the collection with further memorability was the unique and innovative tailoring. Smooth panels twisted and curled around the arms and shoulders of models, giving the impression that these pieces were sculptures and not merely items of clothing.
Whilst the majority of the colour palette remained fairly true to what we’d expect from an AW collection, it was the occasional bursts of neon that re-affirmed in our minds that we were, indeed, watching a Christopher Kane show.
Staying true to what we might expect from Christopher Kane, his AW14 collection combined his signature traits with an updated and re-imagined vision. The unique take on tailoring combined with the use of neon and scattered embellishment provided us with exactly what we wanted: a Christopher Kane collection, ready-to-wear for AW14.
