Autumn-Winter 2014/15 – Remembered in the past for his use of lively prints, attention to detail and heavy embellishment, Matthew Williamson’s latest AW14 range did not fall short of our expectations.
Williamson’s latest collection was busy with a variety of influences, one of the most prominent being the ’70s style prints and tailoring. By combining disco prints, skin tight pieces and heavy sequin embellishment, Matthew Williamson’s collection embodied just the right amount of ’70s inspired evening glamour.
The evening wear in the collection was made up of chic hues of black, gold and silver. However, it was the occasional bursts of bright yellows, reds and blues that gave the collection an underlying kooky feel.
The materials in the range included gorgeous fur in the form of cropped jackets, coats and dresses, and leather in the form of skirts and skinny trousers. The combination of the furs and embroidered leather pieces gave the collection a modern, cool aesthetic. However it was the slim-fitting suits and chunky jewel detail that gave the collection a more opulent and elegant feel.
Matthew Williamson’s ability to create cool, understated glamour makes him tough competition for the other masters of evening wear. This collection in particular showcased some excellent examples of evening wear and was, undoubtedly, contemporary, chic and very, very cool.
