Napoleonic Era

  

The Napoleonic era refers to a period of history between 1799 and 1815 and is often classified as the fourth and final era of the French Revolution. In terms of fashion, the Empire-line dress enjoyed a great amount of popularity in the late 1700s, but towards the end of the Napoleonic era women began to stray away from draped Grecian gowns and moved more towards a slightly dropped waist. Necklines were more lavishly decorated than previously, whereas elaborate hairstyles and hats became both wider and higher to balance out fuller skirts. In terms of modern fashion many couturiers emulate the silhouette that gained popularity in this period, particularly as the detail and intricacy of the gowns and hats is precisely what this era is generally known for.
