Custo Barcelona

Custo Barcelona Woman Spring Summer 2017 – The show notes for this season’s show reportedly stated a “more is more” theme, which was delivered as promised. A clamour of patterns paraded down the catwalk, swinging from bright shades to black to nude. A brocade jacket with silk sleeves was shown over skirt of metallic gold circles creating a distinctly ‘70’s vibe, and later a shiny, sheer trench coat with matching pants styled with large sunglasses. Tropically printed swimsuits, mesh dresses with embroidered decals, and heavily decorated cardigans each came through in turn. One look, somehow more timid than the rest, featured a hooded parka paired with fringe pants and strappy heels.

Belted waists was a structural theme, though not as powerful as the comprehensive ‘more is more’ theme. Cardigans and jackets, cocktail dresses, swimsuits and cover-ups were repeated items for the womenswear, while shorts, suits, and button-down shirts were the prominent pieces shown for menswear.

Avian decals, sequins, fringe and beadwork were among the teeming details. Every model wore large or orange-lensed sunglasses, and the purses carried vacillated between small duffels, square shoulder bags, and large clutches. Tropical prints, stripes, floral and tribal patterns mixed, interspersed with sheer, mesh and lace.

Every item that came down the runway, from a dress or slacks, to a jacket or shorts, was a statement piece in its own right. Playful, eccentric and glamorous, this collection was vibrant and distracting.
