Iron Age refers to the period in which iron became widely used; because the material was introduced to various countries at different times, there are no specific dates to mark the beginning and the end of the Iron Age. However, the Iron Age is particularly relevant in terms of fashion as it marked the introduction of brightly-hued clothing into a world which had previously relied on monochrome. New techniques of dying fabric were becoming popular; therefore this is the age in which colour-block garments were first introduced. The clothing of this era was extremely simple to make – women usually wore basic rectangular maxi-dresses that were dyed a variation of bright colours.
