Medieval
The medieval era generally refers to a period of history spanning the 5th and 15th century. During these years, fashion and textiles evolved gradually as technology developed. In general, cloaks and tunics were worn by both men and women until later on in the 14th century when womens’ tunics were replaced by the gipon, a low-necked, form-fitting garment that was usually knee-length and usually buttoned shut. Later, the gipon evolved into a garment which buttoned to the waist and flared out into a full knee-length skirt, a silhouette which was later replicated in the 1950s and one which is still extremely relevant in fashion today.
