Gothic

  

The Gothic era refers to a period of European history between 1500 and 1800 which saw a drastic change in the art and architecture at the time. Many cathedrals and churches were built, with the architecture emphasising the relationship between humans and God. These themes are recreated frequently in fashion, most recently by Givenchy’s creative designer Riccardo Tisci. The Givenchy collections have always been highly Gothic in their inspiration and design, but Tisci pushed the aesthetic further than ever with his S/S 2013 Menswear collection, featuring screenprints of Mary Magdalene and plenty of other religious iconography. The colour palette was kept strictly to dark greys, blacks and dark purples, recreating the spooky elegance of famous Gothic art and architecture.
