Anglo-Saxon

The Anglo Saxon era refers to the period of history in the years 500-1066. Clothing in the Anglo Saxon era was extremely basic both for men and women. Women tended to wear calf-length tunics that they had woven themselves, cinched in with leather work belts and accessorised with head-dresses. Men wore similar clothes to the women – tunics were worn with ankle-length trousers and pointed shoes, made with cheap, un-dyed fabric.  In the earlier years of the Anglo Saxon era, shawls and cloaks were extremely popular amongst women, and were both fastened and decorated with clasps and brooches.
