Desert Boots

  

Desert boots are made out of suede with rubber crepe soles and just two eyelets for laces. Desert boots were designed by Nathan Clark who was serving as an officer in the Royal Army Service in 1941 where he had been posted to Burma. He made a note of what the soldiers were wearing on their feet which is a normal thing to do considering he was a member of the family behind the famous shoe brand Clarks. Nathan told his family about what he had seen and worked on a design and created a brown suede boot, but it wasn’t until the 1950’s when they became popular.

The shoes were also worn by the subculture Mod rockers and have since been popular with musician Oasis star Liam Gallagher. Liam Gallagher in fact liked Clarks’ classic Desert Boots so much that he collaborated in the 1990’s with Clarks to design his own version of the boot. Even today these Desert boots are very popular and will always be a timeless style. They were originally a men’s shoe but there are women’s styles that have also been a trend. The boots were seen in the spring/summer 2012 collection where the designer Tommy Hilfiger showcased the desert boots that looked great on the runway matching the collection style of camouflage.
