Spring-Summer 2014 – A derelict beach, glittering black sand littered with old giant artefacts of a seaside nature and cloaked with a twilight blue curtain, set the scene for Marc Jacobs historically haunting show. Sheets of rain in a raging thunderstorm had started outside the shipwrecked spectacle and with Aphex Twin Icct Hedral (Philip glass orchestration) soundtrack looming louder and louder the mood was truly darkened.
As temperatures rouse (due to the failure of the air conditioning) the models crushed the runways black sand, September issues of the biggest fashion magazines and squelched cigarettes buried beneath. A combination of Victorian ladies and gothic galore ran throughout the show. Tasselled military jackets, tailored floral Bermuda shorts, jewel embellished sandals and Victorian black lace dresses lined with a rich reds and green: not exactly in keeping with summery season. Nevertheless, Marc Jacobs is ever the showman with New York Fashion Week going down a storm.
