Quiviut

Quiviut fabric is a luxurious fabric from the Arctic Musk Ox. The fibres come from the under wool and are harvested during the spring as this is when the animal moults. The fibres are then cleaned and carded and spun into yarns. These yarns are then knitted to create the fabric which is used for hats, scarves and sweaters. Quiviut fabric is highly prized and is similar to Cashmere. It is strong, lightweight, resistant to shrinkage and very warm. It differs from Cashmere in the fact that it is finer and the fibres are longer. The word ‘Quiviut’ comes from the Inuit language and means ‘Down’ or ‘Underwool.’ This fabric is produced mainly in Canada and Alaska.
