Pique
Pique fabric is a strong, slightly stiff fabric. It is a medium weight, and can be made by either weaving or knitting. It is characterised by having raised, often rounded ribs in a striped, waffled, honeycomb or diamond formation. Pique fabric is usually made from cotton, although silk, viscose and synthetic fibres can be used. Its main use is in the manufacture of polo shirts. The term ‘Pique’ comes from the archaic French word meaning ‘Quilted’ because of the texture of the fabric. Pique fabric can also be used for blouses, dresses, skirts, bags and trimmings.
