Ottoman
Ottoman fabric is a heavy fabric. It is characterised by having a flat, wide crosswise rib. It was traditionally made from silk or wool with a cotton weft, although nowadays it is more commonly made with synthetic fibres. Ottoman fabric is mainly used for evening wear, outerwear or as a trimming. It is also used in legal dress and academic dress. Ottoman fabric in its traditional form, made from pure silk is very expensive so artificial silk is generally used to reduce the price. This fabric is very similar to Grosgrain except it is heavier and thicker.
