Lamè
Lamè fabric is the term applied to any fabric woven or knitted to incorporate metallic threads. This fabric can be made from cotton, silk or other manufactured fibres. It is very popular for eveningwear, fancy dress costumes and dancewear. Generally, this fabric is gold or silver in colour, but copper lame is also available. Lamè comes in many different varieties such as Tissue Lamè, Hologram Lamè and Pearl Lamè. Lamè is also used extensively in fencing because of its conductive properties, meaning that the over jackets it is used to make are called ‘Lamès.’ Lamè fabric is very slippery and notoriously difficult to work with.
