Hopsack

Hopsack is a loosely woven coarse fabric. It is generally made from wool and cotton, but it can also be manufactured using hemp or jute. It is nowadays used in clothing but the name ‘Hopsack’ comes from the fact that it was used to make the sacks for the hop growers. Hopsack has a prominent slub effect, due to the different thicknesses of yarn being used to make it. It is durable and versatile and most often woven using a plain or a basket weave.
