Guipure Lace
Guipure lace is a needlepoint lace that doesn’t have a mesh background, but is instead made up of interconnecting threads. It is manufactured using a heavy buttonhole stitch. Guipure lace features large motifs that are usually floral or geometric designs, held together with a few threads at intervals throughout the pattern. It is used in Bridal gowns, for applications where a background on the lace does not want to be seen. It can also be made into a trimming and used to trim delicate garments. Guipure lace is surprisingly strong, durable and easy to use. It is sometimes called ‘Venetian Lace’ or ‘Filet Guipure.’
