Gauze
Gauze fabric is a lightweight fabric. It is loosely woven and often transparent or semi-transparent. It is usually constructed with a plain weave or a leno weave. A leno weave is made by twisting the warp yarns in pairs and the weft yarns are interwoven through these holes. This technique allows the yarns to be locked into place, creating a stable open weave fabric. Gauze was originally made from silk, but is now more often made using cotton, linen, viscose, acetate or blends of these. This fabric is often used as a trimming. Gauze is also used extensively in medical supplies, for covering wounds as it is breathable, absorbent and can be treated with anti-bacterial properties.
