Chintz

Chintz fabric is made using a plain weave construction. It is typically made using cotton or other fibre blends and has a lustrous finish, either from being glazed with starch or a process called calendaring, whereby the fabric is passed through calendar rollers, some of which are heated. This application of pressure and heating result is a smooth, shiny surface. Chintz fabric is usually printed with colourful designs of fruit, flowers or other motifs. It is used to make dresses, blouses, and outer wear. The name ‘Chintz’ comes from Hindu meaning ‘Variegated.’
