Bengaline

Bengaline is a strong, ribbed fabric which was originally made entirely from silk in Bengal, India. It is now produced usually from cotton, worsted, acetate, viscose, silk or various blends. Bengaline is similar in construction to Poplin and Faille, but has much coarser and heavier ribs. It is formed by using larger coarse warp yarns than the fine weft yarns. When cut unto ribbon widths Bengaline is generally known as grosgrain or Petersham. Bengaline Fabric is used for dresses, coats, suits, ribbons and drapery.
