Bedford Cord
Bedford Cord is a woven cloth similar in appearance to Corduroy. It is very strong and hard-wearing and is typically made from wool, worsted or cotton. Bedford Cord is recognisable by the pronounced rounded rib running in the warp direction. This is created by using a lighter weight warp thread. A plain weave or drill weave are most commonly used. Bedford Cord is used mainly for workwear because of its tough, heavy-duty properties. It can also be used for military uniforms and more lightweight versions can be used in dressmaking. It is named after the town of Bedford in Southern England, where it was first manufactured.
