Spring-Summer 2012 – It was the Valentino we know best. Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri fabricated a sumptuous and sombre collection of pretty pastels and idyllic floor-length gowns. There was everything needed for a spring-summer evening. Nudes, creams and white joined the softest of blues and pinks. The demurer dresses were prim and proper with high necks, long sleeves and even longer hems. Springy florals adorned chiffon layers and heavy silk and satin. Delicate bows lightly nipped in the waist, ruffle-colours adorned lack blouses and soft pussy-bows hung from the neck. The romance of a Valentino shows always shines through, whether it be ponytails tied up with ribbon or the most delicate of lace tops. The ball-gowns could have come straight from a period-drama; they were fit for Victorian royalty. Covered in pearls and crystals, they cascaded to the floor; we were enamored.
