Autumn-Winter 2011/12 – Gaultier captured the hype surrounding Black Swan fantastically. His models paraded down the catwalk with white faces, thick black eyeliner and pulled back dancer-style hair that culminated in a spiked pony with embedded feathers. This was notwithstanding the ribbons that laced up around the ankles, epitomising ballet shoes. So, it was not surprising when the full tutu-tailored skirt, with white feather lining, cascaded down the catwalk. Coats were really the vocal point of the collection: leather jackets, reworked trenches and parkas featured fur trimming around the collar and a cluster of ruffles here and there. A devil like red leather coat portrayed an androgynous masculine feel, perhaps the evil personality of the black swan. The collection was full of pleating and corsetry with sculpted silhouettes. With so many signature pieces and incredible tailoring, Gaultier captured the swan like behaviour perfectly.
