Valentino

Valentino Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2016 – Long, slender silhouettes graced this show from start to finish, in an assortment of elegant styles. A floor length red dress entered among the opening gowns, with a bateau neckline topping a long, bordered velvet sheath, left open at the sides to reveal the flowy silk beneath. This, among other pieces, radiated a Roman theme, present in the folds and cuts of the gowns, as well as the ornate detailing.

Dresses in patchworks of intricately patterned silk panels followed soon after, decorated with sophisticated embroidery. Long, ankle-length coats accompanied several gowns, such as a fur-lined coat over a daintily-pleated, pale orange gown, and a shimmering green velvet coat. A bright yellow gown in shimmery pleats made a bright statement against the otherwise more demure tones throughout the show, while pale, diaphanous gowns closed the collection.

Many looks were accessorized by harnesses of silver spirals, lying along the breastbone and easily curving down along to each side. Each model wore a snake-shaped diadem over smoothly parted hair for a regal, celestial air. Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Paolo Piccioli again deliver a timeless, stately collection.
