Stéphane Rolland
Stéphane Rolland Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2016 – Stéphane Rolland’s expertise as a haute couture designer is apparent throughout his work, and this collection is no exception. This season’s collection was confined to black, white, and tan, with instances of bright red in two pieces. A refined black jumpsuit opened the collection, featuring generous sheer sleeves that brought to mind a flamenco costume. Refined pieces featuring dramatically sculpted tulle in organic shapes, creeping up a belted tan dress, or trailing down the bodice of a black gown.
The fifth look, a stark white dress, ends with a sparkling silver band, with a sheer strip at mid-thigh that turns into a second skirt to the ground; a trailing cape down the right shoulder, capped with appliques resembling dainty mushrooms or small nasturtium leaves. Several gowns, while short in the front, lengthened to trail behind the wearer at the back, revealing long legs lengthened further by high, platformed heels. The pleated red skirt of one gown seems to almost wander slowly downward in waves of petal-like sheets, below a tawny bodice with swirling projections.
The collection offers a promising array of elegant gowns and jumpsuits that will no doubt appeal to a varied audience, displaying instances of both modesty and discreet sensuality. Bared shoulders alternate with deep, divulging necklines or a peak at lengthy legs through sheer skirt panels or a thigh-high slit.
