Junya Watanabe

Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – Watanabe offered something different from the norm which has been black, goth, punk, or something of a similar ilk, at Paris fashion week. First, the loud bright hair of yellow, pink, orange, green and purple was a sure sign to gain attention. Then, the clothes which first, offered murky brown and then grey suits and a tunic dress with contrasting red sleeves. Upon closer inspection, the drowning coats, almost scaling the floor, and the cape-like construction of the outerwear hinted at the punk element in a more discreet way then has been seen; a rejection of the norms (by way of bright, short hair) combined with a hard veneer by way of chunky boots all touched on the anti-authoritarian trent that has been more than pertinent in Paris.
