Autumn-Winter 2010/11 – Controversial as ever, Margiela goes from strength-to-strength whilst maintaining the allusive nature that has made the house its fame and fortune. Strange and oversized portions were the order of the day. This is best represented by the extreme size of the Puffa jackets and more notably the skirts and trousers which were held, by some miracle, around the waist despite extending a couple of inches either side of the model. It is the conceptual philosophy of Margiela that keeps us hooked. Trousers lacked back panels and fur hats were of a ludicrous proportion falling over the models eyes and drooping to the wrists: highly impractical but damn inventive. Never one for conforming, the trousers were ultra long, gathering all the way down the leg before culminating in a triangular shaped hem. It wouldn’t be Margiela without that psychotic twist, this time it came from the smudged red lipstick. The man proceeds his reputation fantastically.
