Autumn-Winter 2010/11 – One word to explain the atmosphere of the horror inspired collection: maddened. John Galliano began his show with a clap of thunder, a strobe of lightening and a spooky castle door. The back combed hair, the introverted fish tail plaits and the ghostly white faces all had a touch of madness to them. The corroborating evidence of this came from the clothes. First, the Mad Hatter enlarged bowler with a wickedly wonderful long sweeping leather coat were noteworthy. The Renaissance lace and ruffles were exemplary of another era; perhaps Galliano wanted to bring such women back from the dead. Swashbuckling Jodhpurs were in tan leather otherwise legs were taken over by dramatic over-the-knee boots which were laced at the back. Light floral printed chiffon and ruffles made up and encased wispy dresses. This culminated in sweeping floor length dresses, covered in vintage embellishments. The collection was nostalgic to the eighteenth century.
