Christie Turlington was born in 1969 in California and remains to this day, one of the best known super models in the world.

Christie was discovered while riding a horse by photographer Dennie Cody, she started modelling aged 14 in between school terms and eventually started modelling full time aged 18.

Christie was incredibly successful from almost the first photo taken of her. She was just 17 when fellow model Yasim Le Bon’s husband, Simon Le Bon of band, Duran Duran featured Christie in their video ‘Notorious’. In 1990 Christie again featured in a music video, this time for George Michael alongside Naomi CampbellLinda EvangelistaCindy Crawford and Tatjana Patitz for the song ‘Freedom’.

Christie has appeared on over 500 fashion magazine covers, including one of 14 special edition covers of V magazine, each cover featured a prestigious model either from the super model era or new rising stars. She has also been featured in several professional photo books including ‘Peter Lindbergh’s 10 Women’.

On her fortieth birthday W magazine honoured Christie by putting together a collection of iconic images from her career, from the late 80s to present day.

In 2000 Christie met actor and director Edward Burns and within weeks they were engaged, the Italian wedding they had planned was postponed after the 9/11 attacks and they eventually broke up. They re-united and married in 2003.

Christie now spends a lot of time doing humanitarian work, in 2005 she started working with CARE, an international humanitarian organisation and is now their advocate for maternal health. She has also been an ambassador for (RED) since their launch in 2006.

In the early 2000s, Turlington continued to dominate the runways and magazine covers with her signature elegance and poise. Her captivating presence and ability to bring clothes to life made her a sought-after model for top designers and brands. Turlington’s classic features and versatile style allowed her to seamlessly adapt to various fashion genres, solidifying her status as a true supermodel.

Beyond her successful modelling career, Turlington has dedicated herself to philanthropy and advocacy work. She is the founder of Every Mother Counts, a non-profit organisation that strives to make childbirth safe for every mother around the world. Her documentary film, “No Woman, No Cry,” explores maternal health challenges in various countries, highlighting the need for improved healthcare and resources for expectant mothers.
