Corinne Day

Corrine Day was born in February 1962 in England. She never attended a photography school and was mainly self-taught.

When she was still a model, she began taking pictures of her colleagues in Los Angeles. Some time later she moved to London where she got a job working with the magazine The Face.

She was brought to people’s attention when she worked with a then very young Kate Moss shooting her for the very first time when she was aged no more than 15. The series of pictures appeared in the magazine The Face in 1990.

Day brought a more realistic style of photography and she was regularly commissioned for the British, Italian and Japanese editions of Vogue Magazine.

For seven years, she worked on her first book “Kruse Verlag” in which she kept a trace of her life and friends.

Her work has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Tate Modern, the Saatchi Gallery, the Science Museum, the Design Museum and was included in the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Whitney Museum in New York.

In 2009 Day was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor. A couple of weeks later Kate Moss and other artists, friends and colleagues sold their photographic prints in a campaign titled “Save the Day” to enable her to receive chemotherapy in America. Together they raised over £100.000.

“Corinne opened the door for a whole generation of photographers, designers, models and stylists who suddenly saw that the fashion industry didn’t have to be this exclusive club for the privileged and perfect.”said Belinda White in the Daily Telegraph.

She died at the young age of 45 years old in August 2010, after a long fight against cancer.
