Vionnet Women Spring Summer 2016 –

In typical Vionnet style, the SS16 collection had a distinctive Grecian feel, and featured elegant, flowing, long dresses with a deep plunging V neck. The dresses were cast in a series of nudes, cream, peach, and black, with sheer panels and lace interjected throughout.

Of course, the dresses were bias cut (Vionnet’s trademark, curated by Madeline Vionnet who founded the couture house), enabling them to hang beautifully on the models’ bodies and move freely with their motion. A lot of the designs featured a sheer layer, draped over the top of the swooping dresses. The result was a spectacle of elegance and femininity.

The Grecian vibes continued to footwear, where the Grecian sandal was subverted and updated: fashioned out of chunky leather, they snaked up midway the shin. Gold bars were bent into swirling shapes and worn as earrings and brooches, while make up was kept minimal, just a black cuboid over the eyes, and occasionally, bleached eyebrows to give a sense of edginess to the otherwise serene collection.
