Founded by Gimmo Etro in 1968

Gimmo Etro had an innate love for travel and history and, when establishing the company in 1968, aimed to make the soon to be lifestyle brand synonymous with quality and sophistication.

The company, originally a fashion fabrics business, produced materials that were made of fine original fibres. Haute couture fabrics in silk, cashmere and cotton were created with innovative patterns and colours.  In 1981 a paisley motif design was created, which eventually became the company’s symbol for the Etro brand.

In 1983 the company opened their first boutique in Milan, selling Etro’s collections of ties, scarves and shawls. In 1985 a home accessories line was launched.

Expanding their international presence, the business started distributing in Japan in 1988 leading to over sixty boutiques opening in the Far East.

In 1989 Etro launched their first fragrances. Five years later the company presented their first catwalk fashion show. In 1998 an eyewear and sunglass collection were launched.

Since 1990 the menswear line has been headed by Kean Etro, with his sister Veronica, directing womenswear. Gimmo’s other children are also involved in the business. Jacapo handles the textile division and Ippolito runs the company’s finances.

The Etro style offers interesting prints made with exquisite fabrics. Emphasising the use of colours, the garments are creative and luxurious.
