Sex and the City (2008)

Throughout The sex and the city series, women, girls (and some boys even) followed the exquisite styles and lives of The Sex and the City women. There were ups and downs, but ultimately everyone had one character that they related to a little, whether it is in fashion or in personality, and therefore was influenced by her.

Patricia Field was the costume designer for the film as well as the television series, which on its own was an ambassador for designer fashion. For her work on Sex and the City, Field was nominated for five Emmy Awards, with one win, and nominated for six Costume Designers Guild awards, with four wins.

The film went on to emanate style rather more like a catwalk show. It had a slight emphasis on Louis Vuitton, mainly bags, thanks to Jennifer Hudson’s lovable character “Louise from St. Louis”. Vivienne Westwood designed the gorgeous gown worn by Carrie in the first attempt at her wedding; there were hats by Prudent Milliners, Dior shoes and designers featured in every wardrobe change.

There was also the obligatory loyalty to Manolo Blahnik, a shoe designer that featured prominently as Carries favorite in the series. The celebration of fashion is prevalent, from the beauty of all six designer wedding dresses to the humour of the montage in which Carrie is packing up her old wardrobe. This film portrays fashion as a character rather than a wardrobe and she is nothing short of fabulous.
