Composite Overlay

A pattern which uses composite overlay is generally a pattern which has two or more designs placed on top of each other. An example of this is the patterned ground pattern, where the background is patterned and another contrasting pattern is placed over the top. These patterns can use many different motifs, designs and themes and are printed onto finished fabric.
